Where are you located?
We are located at 250 Foerster Street, between Hearst and Flood. The neighborhood has plentiful street parking during the daytime. Sunnyside is in a residential area, one block south of Monterey Boulevard, which is convenient to the 280 off-ramp and City College. Get directions from Google Maps.
What are the school hours?
Sunnyside’s hours are 8:40 a.m.–2:40 p.m. for all students. Children may be dropped off in the schoolyard beginning at 8:20 a.m. for supervised outdoor play.
What is your school population? most current information as of 8/14/2012
We are a small, friendly school with about 319 students. In 2010 our diverse student body was approximately 24% Latino, 29% Caucasian, 12% African American, 11% Filipino, 10% Chinese, 7% other or multi-ethnic, and a small percentage non-specified. We have two Severely Impaired Special Education classrooms.
Are your teachers fully credentialed?
Yes, all of our teachers are fully credentialed. Several times a month, all teachers participate in school-wide, grade-level, and cross grade-level professional development meetings.
What curriculum do you use?
All teachers use State- and District-adopted texts and curricula and supplement their lessons with books, videos, and other instructional materials. Particular curricula include Houghton-Mifflin Language Arts, Everyday Mathematics, and Foss Science Kits.
Are before and after school childcare programs available?
Yes.
The YMCA provides on-site childcare in the mornings from 7:30–8:40 a.m. and in the afternoons from 2:40–6:00 p.m.
Tutors-R-Us provides after sch00l enrichment classes from 2:40-6:30 p.m. at St. Finn Barr School, which is next door to Sunnyside. TRU staff pick up and escort Sunnysiders to St. Finn Barr.
There is also a free after-school program primarily for grades 3-5 called ExCEL that operates from 2:40–5:40 p.m.

Is there a back-to-school night or orientation?
For Kindergarten families, we hold a Kindergarten orientation each August, the week before school begins. For families in Grades 1-5, we hold a Back-to-School Night after school begins, at which parents meet their child’s teacher and learn more about their new classroom.
Where do I drop my child off in the morning?
If you drive, you can either park and walk your child in or drop him or her off in front of the school at the drop-off zone. Our "Stop, Drop and Roll" zone on Hearst Street is staffed by parent volunteers, 5th grade volunteers, and sometimes even the principal.
