Walk & Roll Wednesdays

_Walk and Roll Wednesday is a fun program designed to educate all of us about the environment and the things we can do in our daily lives to help make our planet better!

All students need to do is to participate on every Wednesday of the month starting November 2012 and ending April, 2013.

Take part in one of the activities below and receive a sticker and raffle ticket. At the end of the program– there will be lots of prizes for all!

Participate every Wednesday by:
  • Walking, Biking or scooter to school from at least 5 blocks away
  • Taking the bus to school
  • Composting food at school
  • Any earth friendly activity at home or in your community
  • Get caught being clean and green at school!  Pick up trash, recycle, save electricity  - use your imagination for more ideas!

How do I get a sticker and raffle ticket?
  • If you walk, bike etc., come into the foyer of the school Wednesday morning for a sticker
  • If you take the bus – get a transfer from the bus driver and turn it in for a sticker
  • Teachers and staff will give students raffle tickets when they "get caught" being clean and green at school. Students can receive tickets for composting, picking up trash, redirecting recyclables/compostables to the appropriate bin, saving electricity. Students should turn these "clean and green" raffle tickets in to their teachers. Teachers will pass on these raffle tickets to Ms. Plack, who will add them to the big raffle.
  • Write a sentence or 2 about what earth friendly activity you did, have your parents sign the paper or go to Cooltheearth.org and download an activity coupon & exchange it for a sticker every Wednesday am

How Can I get a prize?
  • Everyone gets a sticker when they Walk and Roll. At the end of April we will have a big rally and raffle drawing. The top prize is a new bike and helmet. Runners up win a scooter, skateboard, gift cards, etc.

How Can I Volunteer to Help?

Stop, Drop & Roll

_Sunnyside’s school day starts at 8:40 and goes until 2:40.  You can drop your child off as early as 8:20, which is when there is adult supervision on the yard (teachers rotate this duty).  If you drive, you can either park and walk your child in, or drop them off in front of the school at the drop off zone.  This zone is manned by parent volunteers, 5th grade volunteers, and sometimes even the principal.
