Sunnyside offers a variety of fee-based Enrichment Programs afterschool to add to your child's education, development and fun-quotient. Enrollment forms will be sent out through our Wednesday Envelope. Please contact program directors for more detailed information and costs.
Note: Children enrolled in the YMCA may also take advantage of these Enrichment Programs for the additional fee. Children enrolled in EXCEL are required to be in the EXCEL program all day and will not be able to attend these Enrichment programs. However, both the YMCA and EXCEL have many Enrichment activities included as part of their programs. Please contact these programs directly for more details.

This art class for older students introduces artists to a wide variety of art materials and techniques in a nurturing environment through fun and skill building projects. As we explore basic art skills, students begin to realize their own artistic expression. Meg Sandine has taught art for 17 years and has been at Sunnyside School for 4 years.
American Sign Language (ASL)

Sunnyside's ASL program was created and is taught by our very own Maren Nymo (Sunnyside parent). The class is interactive, fun, and exciting for the kids as they learn a new language. The structure of the class utilizes sight words/high frequency words (common words taught in kindergarten through second grade), finger spelling, and ASL signs used in everyday conversation. The class references sight words and other parts of the curriculum through a variety of methods and games that the students enjoy. Students of all levels benefit from exposure to ASL. It fosters confidence and understanding of another language and culture.

Come and explore creativity and design through Legos. Every week kids will experience an exciting new project - build a spaceship, skyscraper, free play, etc. The kids will be encouraged to create whatever they want based on the theme. Each child will be given the opportunity to do show-and-tell with their creation to the class. Sunnyside's Lego Club was started in 2010 by a very dedicated Mom and team of parents. It continues to be parent-run and is always looking for more parent volunteers.

Sunnyside's Sports, Health & Fitness Class is specifically designed to encourage kids into a lifetime of being physically active and having lots of fun while doing it. Our athletes will learn a new sport every two weeks which includes Basketball, Tennis, Lacrosse, Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Baseball, etc. Our focus is to educate out athletes on anatomy, physiology and nutrition in a fun and interesting way. We want them to be armed with the knowledge they need to live healthy, active lives. Each student receives personalized attention and encouragement while participating in our class activities. All classes are taught ba a Certified Personal Trainer.

Piano with Keyboard Educators offers a complete piano course to all children grades Kindergarten thru 5th grade. Children learn to play the piano one on one and also learn theory. They learn to read music and write music... not just play the piano. It's a wonderful piano course... children have fun and learn piano at the same time.

Linda's Musical Theatre classes for kids include Musical Theatre workshops, Voice, Jazz/Tap and Acting. Musical Theatre classes meet once a week, Fall & Spring sessions (held at St. Finn Barr's Parish Hall) on Monday & Wednesdays. Classes teach vocal, dance and acting skills in a creative, supportive and fun environment. Upon completion of the workshop, a full scale musical will be performed. All students are part of the show. This is a safe environment where children can use their imagination and flourish as a performer. They will not only learn their craft, but get experience performing. Voice, Jazz/Tap, Acting, and others are offered in Fall & Spring on Tuesdays at St. Finn Barr Parish hall and Fridays at DSG Studios.
NOTE: Linda’s Musical Theatre is in partnership with Sunnsyide Elementary and offers a complimentary student escort from and back to Sunnyside and the YMCA.
