LUNCH & RECESS
All Sunnyside students eat lunch with their grade in the auditorium/cafeteria and then go outside for recess. When our lunch monitors see that they have eaten enough, they are dismissed by class to recess on the yard.
Volunteers are essential for helping younger kids open their lunches, to keep kids focused, and to supervise recess! We welcome parent and grandparent
involvement at this level. Volunteering at lunch is a great way to see what a day in the life is really like at Sunnyside, and an easy way to meet your child's friends and our amazing staff.
Parent lunch volunteers are always needed! If you would like to volunteer in the cafeteria or on the schoolyard during lunchtime, leave a message in the office at (415) 469-4746. (You can also sign up online here.) Parents are always welcome to stop by to help at lunch as well, please check in with the front office when you arrive.
SFUSD is excited to let you know that since January, 2013 students have been served fresh, not frozen, meals provided by Oakland-based Revolution Foods.

How to Order Lunch
Free and reduced price meals are available to students based on household income. At the beginning of the school year, you will receive an application form for free and reduced price meals. The form is also available at the school office and must be completed each year. If you do not want the lunch or know that you are not eligible for free or reduced rate lunch, please still fill out the form as it collects statistics that are essential for school and district-wide evaluation and funding.
Pack a Healthy Lunch
Sunnyside’s PTA and faculty promote health and wellness. The following items are strongly discouraged: candy, soda, sports energy drinks, junk food, cookies & cake. Healthy lunch foods include: fruit, vegetables, bread, sandwiches, soups, noodles, rice, beans, milk, cheese, seaweed, yogurt, water, and home-made foods. Please pack lunch containers that are easy for your student to open, and practice opening and closing them with your younger children. Water bottles are also encouraged. Please label your student's supplies with their name and room number and we'll do our best to return lost items.
*** Some students have peanut, nut, and other food allergies at Sunnyside. Please remind students that they are not to share food with other students at school. ***
K only 1:45-2:00pm
Volunteers are also welcome to come at recess to play with our great kids!
