PTA Events and Activities

On-going events

PTA Meetings

PTA meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 5:45 pm the school library.  These are great opportunities for you to learn what’s going on in the school and with the PTA.  Come to the meeting, voice your concerns, and add your input. Guest speakers present a range of topics from math curriculum to nutrition will attend these meetings.  Refreshments and childcare are provided.

Spirit Days

Every Friday is Spirit Day.  We encourage students to wear their Sunnyside t-shirt or sweatshirt on this day.  We also ask you to donate some refreshments for the school staff.  It is a chance to show the staff your appreciation for their hard work.

Fall Events

Kindergarten Orientation

Organized with the principal and teachers, this is an evening orientation meeting for parents of incoming kindergarteners with snacks and a chance to meet the new members of our community.

New Parents Welcome

On the morning of the first day of school, new Sunnyside community members are invited to meet in the school library for light refreshments, and to meet the principal and PTA board members.  It is also an excellent way to learn more about the school and PTA, as well as to meet other parents.

Back to School Night

Visit your student’s classroom, meet their teacher and learn about what we will be doing this year. Also a good opportunity to meet the other parents and caregivers in your student’s class and learn how you can help your student succeed.

NEW 2010 – Sunnyside Fun Run

NEW 2010 – Cool The Earth

Walk to School Day

Join hundreds of other people all over the country to walk to school on the second Wednesday in October. Meet other people and walk together at pre-determined locations and enjoy refreshments when you arrive. You can organize one of the meeting spots, gather and set up refreshments and participation tokens or just walk with your student that day.

Sunnyside School Tours

OctoberFest

Students play carnival games, then gather in the yard for a costume parade during the day. You can help set up or run the games, collect game prizes and help students get into their costumes for the parade.

Winter Events

Read-a-Thon

Students help raise funds for the school, and at the same time increase their reading skills. Each student records how many minutes they read and collect donations. You can help with copying flyers, counting money, recording the number of hours that students read and distributing the participation prizes.

Math & Science Night

An evening filled with math and science activities and games for the whole family. The PTA provides dinner for the teachers and staff and sells healthy refreshments at the event.

International Potluck

This popular event is scheduled during International Week in February.  Bring a salad, a casserole, or your favorite dish for an evening of fun in the school cafeteria.  You can help by purchasing supplies for the potluck, serving food, setting up, or cleaning up.

Spring Events

Spring Clean

We pitch in to help keep our school and yard tidy.  Volunteers clean carpets, throw out unused equipment, paint benches, plant flowers, or just cleaning up debris. If you can’t help on weekdays, this is a great opportunity to help out.

Bike-To-School Day

Staff Appreciation Week

The PTA provides a special week and lunch for the staff in May.  Gather thank-you gifts, decorate the library, prepare a delicious meal for the staff members to enjoy or help serve or clean up.  It is a wonderful way to show just how much the special hard-working staff is appreciated!

SpringFest, Raffle and Art Show

The biggest event of the year! It is an all day festival with games, an art show and sale and a raffle. You can help solicit raffle donations, set up the games, make posters and flyers, get raffle prizes, sell raffle tickets and clean up afterwards.
