Parents & PTA
Sunnyside Elementary School PTA is a nonprofit organization that brings together the parents, teachers, and community partners of our school. Through collaborative planning, fundraising, and community building events, we support our school’s strengths and enrich our students’ learning experiences.
Our PTA’s programs include:
- Academic support
- Science support
- Arts and culture
- Health and wellness
- Community engagement and parent education
We host welcoming events throughout the year to engage parents, caregivers, and community members in our children’s learning. These events include Science Night, International Week, and Spring Fest.
Our recent successes have included the Sunnyside Learning Garden, an outdoor classroom of container gardens built by parent volunteers; the Sunnyside Play Structure, an important addition to our blacktop play yard; and a Native Plant Garden, bordering the play area and maintained by parent volunteers. This year, our students are working with an artist-in-residence to create a mosaic mural that will beautify the entrance to our school.
We have funded our successful programs through membership dues and donations, family volunteerism, and grants from Lowe’s Toolbox, SF Community Challenge Grant Program, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Wells Fargo, CostPlus World Market, and others.
