Sunnyside is a Elementary school located in the Sunnyside district of San Francisco. Named after the neighborhood in which it is located, Sunnyside offers a small friendly neighborhood school with excellent teachers, a diverse student body, and a reputation for excellence.
Collaborative and cooperative learning is developed.
Students are encouraged to maximize their learning. Hard work and improvement are well rewarded. “Doing your best” is a Sunnyside motto.

Sunnyside School is a shining example of quality education in action! The school faculty and staff provide a nurturing environment. They have created an educational program which stresses both creative and cognitive development.
At Sunnyside, the children in each of the thirteen regular and two Special Education self-contained classrooms receive instruction from experienced teachers with superb credentials. In addition, the teachers are ably assisted in the classrooms by student teachers, parents, and volunteers. Our test scores are rising, and the curriculum is in accordance with the highest standards of the S.F. Unified School District in the fundamentals: Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
The staff provides instruction in the performing arts, computer skills, and cultural history, which all address district and state standards. District Math and Literacy programs are effectively implemented. Regular testing and assessments drive instruction.
Sunnyside has state and federal grants to provide additional and essential services for those children who require special attention. The Gifted Program, Multilingual Services, and Special Education Programs plus the Instrumental Music Program are all available to students.
Sunnyside is also supported by its parents, PTA, and a volunteer program – all providing invaluable service and resourceful support.
Principal’s Message
Students are taught to develop problem solving skills and are treated with immense respect and supportive sensitivity. Their needs are of utmost concern to the school faculty and staff. The students are expected to give reciprocal respect.
Students learn that, with a cooperative spirit, learning can be fun and exciting. Individual strengths and learning styles are recognized and accommodated.
Our school has a well stocked Library, and computer instruction is integrated in the classroom. Students work with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra throughout the year, and instrumental tuition is provided. A Music in Action Program and Artists in Residence also provide enrichment. Our Gifted and Talented Program challenges and extends the accelerated learner.
