Hot Off the Press | “The Ray” | Sunnyside Literary Journal

Sunnyside’s Literary Journal, “The Ray”, makes its debut at SpringFest this Saturday, May 22. This impressive, 68+ page journal, displays an array of art, poetry and creativity from almost every student at Sunnyside, K-5.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to “The Ray”, especially the students, teachers, Ms. Capitan, Ms. Schlenke, the 5-person student editorial team, and our hard-working designer, Suzanne Walsh.

“The Ray” is available for $5, with 100% of the proceeds going to the PTA thanks to a generous donation by our printers, KK Graphics.

Young at Art: A Citywide Celebration of Student Creativity

Young at Art is an 8 day celebration of student creativity in visual, literary, media and performing arts hosted by the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park from May 8-16, 2010. Sunnyside students, along with children from 250 San Francisco schools and community groups, are actively participating or presenting their work this year.

Each year Sunnyside teachers choose five visual arts submissions to represent the art work of Sunnyside students. This year the following students have pieces displayed at the de Young Museum during the art festival: Ricardo (4th grade), Adonis (4th grade), Amani (2nd grade), Una (5th grade), and Janelle (5th grade). Kindergarten and first grade students from Ms. Quillin, Ms. Plack, and Ms. Grande’s classes performed “Dancing the Elements” under the direction of our LEAP dance instructor Mela Saunders. The students performed at the bandshell in front of the de Young Museum on Thursday, May 13.

The celebration ends on Sunday, May 16. Visit www.youngatartsf.com for more information.

Important Parent Meeting Tonight!

SFUSD has requested to meet with Sunnyside parents tonight (Monday, May 10) at 5:30 pm.  Our search for a new principal will be discussed.  We need to have a good turn out so the district can address the concerns of the Sunnyside Community.  Please come tonight and speak up for an excellent Principal for Sunnyside!

Childcare will be provided.
