Mad Scientists
Thanks to Kari and all her hard work, pictures from Science Night are up. Who knows, maybe there will be more event coverage on the way.

Sunnyside students all enjoy science every week. Once a year, the entire Sunnyside community gets together to do science projects together.
Many Sunnyside families and friends came to our annual Science Night in December.
Each classroom had a (sometimes messy!) hands-on science project.
We measured, observed, built and recorded.
The PTA provided a yummy dinner and prizes for everyone who came.
Most of the experiments were easy and it was fun to work with our families and friends.
Everyone who completed more than eight projects was entered in a raffle for science books, games and other prizes.
All classes are continuing to receive arts classes this Spring. Grades K and 1 are continuing with Movement classes with the Performing Arts workshop. Grades K – 3 are continuing singing with Jacki Ng. Grades 2 and 3 and the two Special Education classes have started visual art classes through LEAP, and the 4th and 5th graders are about to start Theatre with the Performing Arts Workshop. Instrumental classes also continue for 4th and 5th grades with Mrs. McMurray.
Thanks to Karen Franklin and Ms. Capitan, our Art Cart has started traveling to each classroom with art supplies and fun projects for Sunnyside students. The November project was a construction paper animal mosaic. Parents, guardians and grandparents can take part in art, too! The Art Cart needs YOUR support – please donate a bag of dried beans for the December project or check with your student’s teacher if you can help for one hour a month to help set up and clean up after Art Cart projects.
Sunnyside Elementary is participating in the RIF program for the second year. Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.(RIF) prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books to children and families.
Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children’s and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year. Sunnyside is excited to participate in this program again this year.
This year, every student will receive three free books to keep. Volunteers are still needed to help to distribute the books on January 8, February 12 and March 18. Please contact Amy Nelson if you can help for about an hour each morning or the evening before. thanks!
