FIELD TRIP SUGGESTIONS
The Presidio - Kids practice real archeological skills in a real archeology lab! I've seen this one in action and it is great. Kids get to handle real artifacts and practice historical analysis. For grades 1 - 5. The SF Maritime Museum - There are a variety of day and overnight trips available at the site - most are living history trips, with staff acting out the parts of gold rush miners or sailors. The coolest trip, in my view, is the overnight stay on the Balclutha, the 19th century tall masted ship that is the focal point of the Maritime Museum. This is also a living history trip - the staff are dressed up as 19th century sailors, and the kids play the role of sailors as well. The have to help cook in the galley, swab the deck, etc. Plus they get to sing sea chanteys. What could be better? It also possible to stay overnight on the USS Pampanito, a WWII -era sub. Fort Point - Provides field trips on the natural habitat of the Golden Gate for K & 1, and on California and Military history for grades 4 & 5. |
