SCIENCE
Sunnyside prides itself on its science focus. Our children germinate seeds, hatch beetles, study the brain, use microscopes, and more. They meet real scientists in their classrooms, and they visit laboratories, marine centers, and farms. Our teachers go far beyond the basics.
- Our K-5 science curriculum is provided through the FOSS Program and includes 6- to 8-week learning modules focused on Life, Physical Science and Earth.
- Science is integrated into every classroom. In addition, students take science-focused field trips such as a neighborhood tree walk and visits to the Randall Museum.
- San Francisco State University Science Students work with our 2nd graders by doing hands-on experiments with each classroom.
- Working to Improve Science (WISE) strengthens science learning in our Grade 3-5 classrooms with additional experiments and science projects.
- As part of the WISE program, our teachers received Science Training at the California Science Teachers Convention.
- Scientists from the UCSF Science Education Partnership visit many of our classrooms, beginning with our Kindergartners. They bring highly engaging, hands-on experiments.
