2011 Recap
What a great day for a run! We had iffy weather which cleared up just in time. We had over 25 volunteers before and during the event. You know who you are - you helped make it happen too! This is the 2nd annual Fun Run which is now an essential community event for Sunnyside.
120 Sunnyside students and friends ran and walked around the track at Aptos Middle School. Everyone was in great spirits. Joining in were teachers Mr. Yee, Ms. Lee and Ms. Peters running with their classes. Principal Simard made the opening welcome and reminders. Then at 12 noon... they were off on the track. They ran, walked and strolled. They ran some more. Some students totaled over 20 laps in less than one hour! At 1pm when the race finished, runners picked up their medals. Then everyone dug into the potluck and enjoyed all the good food.
A reminder to let your sponsors know how well your student’s did and to collect those pledges. All contributions, along with your (yellow) pledge form are due no later than October 11th. There’s a Fun Run Collections envelope in the office as well as Thank You postcards.
After October 11th we will announce the winners:
And the grand prize package for the one student in each grade who collects the most donations will be:

- Every class with 100% participation (where every student collects donations and/or walks) will get a Kettlecorn Party.
- Every student who participates will be entered into a raffle to win great sports prizes (soccer ball, basketball, stomp rocket...)
And the grand prize package for the one student in each grade who collects the most donations will be:
- A pass for 4 to go bowling, and 1 movie pass

All families are responsible for collecting donations from their sponsors within 2 weeks after the event. Postcards will be provided to follow up with your sponsors. Money and pledge forms should be turned in to your teacher or at the front office no later than October 11th.
This is the second year for our fun run and one of the many events that brings the whole school together. After the event we will gather on the playing field to share a potluck picnic. For siblings and friends who want to run, there is a $5 registration fee.
What to Bring on the Day:
When you Arrive at the Event:
Registration is between 11-11:45 am. Be on time to register with your pledge sheets because the running and walking begins exactly at 12 noon and finishes at 1 pm. After you register, find the picnic area in the field for your grade to drop off your potluck dish. Listen for the start time announcement.

- Example 1: You ask a friend or family member to sponsor you for $2 per lap and then you run or walk 20 laps. After the event you collect $40 from your sponsor and turn it in with your pledge sheet.
- Example 2: Your friend or family member sponsors you at a flat rate (a set amount no matter how many times you go around the track) which you collect and turn in with your pledge sheet after the event.
Prizes:
- One student from each grade who completes the most laps gets a Giants Baseball Cap

- Comfortable clothes and shoes
- Potluck dishes (your room parent will tell you what is needed). Water will be provided.
- Picnic blanket, sunscreen, camera.
