Sunnyside’s innovative math and technology programs provide K-5 students with a strong foundation in math and digital literacy. Our Librarian and Digital Literacy Teacher, Lark Graham, works weekly with each class on research, technology projects and digital literacy. Our Math and Technology Enrichment Instructor, Rhiana Maidenberg, works closely with teachers to develop activities that make math come alive. She works with each classroom for 10 weeks per year, leading creative and challenging math projects. Students even get to do a bit of basic computer programming! The Sunnyside PTA funds this program.
Rhiana Maidenberg - Math Program Instructor
Rhiana Maidenberg holds a B.A. in mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis and a Masters in Secondary Math Education from American University. Although she has spent most of her teaching years in middle and high school, her true passion lies in working with elementary school students, during the formative years of math development.
In addition to her roles in the classroom, Rhiana hopes to implement an annual school-wide Math Olympics, with events such as the Mental Math Challenge and the Great Sudoku Contest.
